The Town of Brownsburg has been named a 2022 Tree City USA for its eighth consecutive year, which honors the Town's commitment to effective urban forestry management.
In achieving the Tree City USA recognition, Brownsburg met the program's four requirements:
- A board/department dedicated to arbor management
- A tree-care ordinance
- An annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
- An Arbor Day proclamation
The Brownsburg Parks Department developed many programs to encourage tree plantings and removing invasive species. In 2022, the department planted 96 trees, sold 110 trees during the annual Fall Tree Sale, and invested $6.86 per capita in arbor management. In addition, the department cleared multiple acres of invasive species across Brownsburg's parks and trails.
In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day, the Town and Parks Department is hosting a Clean and Green Earth Day volunteer clean-up on April 22, 2023.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
